“My first time coming to Brixton at 8 years old, was such an overwhelming experience. I remember my dad taking me over to speak to Jimmy and being so nervous to even look up him. His voice bellowed throughout the court and the way he controlled all age groups with his presence alone was somewhat intimidating. From that day onwards Brixton Topcats became my family, a part of my identity and a staple in my life.
Being walking distance from my home, Brixton Recreational Centre became my sanctuary and Brixton Topcats became my family. Working my way up through the ranks took hard work and dedication but it was something that became a habit. Pushing our bodies and minds to the limit to achieve our goals. After playing cadets U16, U18 and then eventually with the men’s team I got a scholarship to the States to attend prep school.
I’ve gone on to play NCAA college ball and across Europe, and now back in London with the London Lions. However, my ties to Brixton have never weakened. Even being thousands of miles away I’ve always stayed in constant contact with the Topcats, coming back for summers, training with Jabbar and helping with the kids at summer camp was just normal for me even up to this day. Now, I’m still connected with the club being a member of the board/committee. Brixton Topcats is a part of me and always will be 🙌🏾”
